2021 Transaction Data of National Power Market of China

In 2021, the Power Trading Centers across the nation completed a total of 3,778.74 TWh market-based electricity transactions, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%, accounting for 45.5% of the total electricity consumption in the whole society, a year-on-year increase of 3.3 percentage points. Among them, the transactions of the med- and long-term direct-traded electricity totaled 3,040.46 TWh, a year-on-year increase of 22.8%.

In December, all the Power Trading Centers across the nation completed the market-based electricity transactions of 408.77 TWh, a year-on-year increase of 25.6%. Among them, the total amount of the mid-and long-term direct-traded electricity transactions reached 317.64 TWh, a year-on-year increase of 26.9%.

1. Electricity Transactions of the Power Trading Centers Across the Nation

In 2021, the Power Trading Centers across the nation completed a total of 3,778.74 TWh of the market-based electricity transactions, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%, accounting for 45.5% of the total electricity consumption in the society, a year-on-year increase of 3.3 percentage points. 

The total amount of the electricity transactions within the individual provincial markets (only medium and long-term) reached 3,076.03 TWh. Among them, 2,851.45 TWh was of direct-trading, 630.0 TWh was of clean energy, 203.88 TWh was of power generation rights, 11.76 TWh was of pumped storage and 8.3 TWh was of others. 

The total amount of the inter-provincial (medium and long-term and spot market) market-based transactions reached 702.71 TWh, of which 189.01 TWh direct-trading, 503.75 TWh inter-provincial delivery, and 9.95 TWh power generation rights.

In December, the Power Trading Centers across the nation completed the market-based electricity transactions of 408.77 TWh, a year-on-year increase of 25.6%. 

The total amount of the electricity traded within the individual provincial markets (only medium and long-term) reached 326.92 TWh, of which 306.07 TWh direct-traded, 0.31 TWh clean power, 19.68 TWh power generation rights, 0.32 TWh pumped storage and 0.54 TWh others. 

The total amount of the electricity traded inter-provinces (in medium and long term and spot) reached 81.86 TWh, of which 11.57 TWh was directly traded, 70.05 TWh was traded cross-provinces, and 0.24 TWh in power generation rights.

In 2021, the Power Trading Centers in the service area of State Grid completed a total of 2,917.15 TWh of the market-based electricity transactions, accounting for 44.5% of the total electricity consumption in the region. Among them, the Beijing Power Trading Center completed a total of 637.9 TWh inter-provincial transactions. 

The Power Trading Centers in the service area of China Southern Grid completed a total of 670.28 TWh of the market-based electricity transactions, accounting for 46.6% of the total electricity consumption in the mentioned regions. Among them, the Guangzhou Power Trading Center completed a total of 59.04 TWh inter-provincial electricity transactions. 

The Inner Mongolia Power Trading Center completed a total of 191.31 TWh electricity transactions, accounting for 61% of the total electricity consumption in its service area.

2. Medium and Long-Term Direct-Traded Electricity Transactions of National Power Market

In 2021, the transactions of the medium and long-term direct-traded electricity in the National Power Market totaled 3,040.46 TWh, a year-on-year increase of 22.8%. Among them, 2,851.45 TWh was of the direct-traded electricity within the individual provincial markets and 189 TWh was of the direct-traded electricity between provinces (received externally), accounting for 93.8% and 6.2% respectively.

In December, the transactions of the medium and long-term direct-traded electricity in the National Power Market totaled 317.64 TWh, a year-on-year increase of 26.9%, of which 306.07 TWh was of the direct-traded electricity within the individual provincial markets, and 11.57 TWh was of the direct-traded electricity (received externally) between provinces, accounting for 96.4% and 3.6% respectively.
