The 2021 Working Meeting of China-Japan Joint Committee Held Online

January 13, 2022 /CEC/ - The 2021 Working Meeting of China-Japan Joint Committee co-organized by China Electricity Council (CEC) and Japan Coal Frontier Organization (JCOAL) was held online on January 12, 2021. Yang Kun, the Executive President of CEC and Tsukamoto Osamu, the President of JCOAL and the representatives from the Electric Power Division of the National Energy Administration of China, the Department of Natural Resources and Energy of the Ministry of Economy, the Trade and Industry Bureau of Japan and relevant associations and research institutions in the power industry attended the Meeting. 

At the Meeting, Yang Kun, on behalf of CEC, expressed the gratitude to the members of the China-Japan Joint Committee for their long-term support. Yang Kun mentioned that at present, China's power industry is actively promoting the optimal combination of coal and clean energy to build the New Type Power System with clean energy as the mainstay and focusing on the nation’s goal of carbon dioxide peaking and carbon neutrality. It is hoped that the China-Japan Joint Committee will continue to strengthen the technical exchanges on coal-fired power energy conservation and emission reduction, carbon capture, utilization and storage, flexibility transformation of coal-fired generating units, and advanced treatment and utilization of power plant waste water.

On behalf of JCOL, Osamu Tsukamoto mentioned that the China-Japan Joint Committee jointly organized and established by CEC and JCOAL has carried out various forms of technical exchanges and cooperation in recent years, especially in 2021, more than 100 representatives from China and Japan participated in the related activities. In April 2021, the Japan Coal Energy Center was renamed as the Japan Coal Frontier Organization, with the aim of developing and utilizing the clean coal technologies and exploring new fields for the effective utilization of coal. It is hoped that the China-Japan Joint Committee could continue to conduct in-depth exchanges on topics such as carbon recycling in the future.
