In 2020, the overall electricity consumption in China reached 7,511TWh, with a year-on-year growth of 3.1%. Specifically, the electricity consumption of primary, secondary and tertiary industry was 85.9TWh, 5,121.5TWh and 1,208.7TWh respectively, grew by 10.2%, 2.5% and 1.9% over the previous year. Residential power consumption reached 1,094.9TWh with a year-on-year growth of 6.9%.
In 2020, the accumulative average utilization hours (AUHs) of power generation equipment of 6MW and above nationwide was 3,758 hours, a decrease of 70 hours from 2019. Among them, the AUHs of hydropower equipment was 3,827 hours, increased by 130 hours over the previous year; while the AUHs of thermal power equipment was 4,216 hours, a decrease of 92 hours.
Newly installed power generation capacity in China reached 190.87GW in 2020, in which hydro, wind and solar power reached 13.23GW, 71.67GW and 48.2GW respectively.
