CEC Held the 2021 (50th) Annual Meeting on Production and Operation Management of Coal-Fired Power Plants

Sep. 29, 2021 /CEC/ - Following the nation’s new energy security strategy of‘Four Reforms and One Cooperation’ and the‘Dual-Carbon’target, China Electricity Council (CEC) and China Datang Corporation Ltd., jointly organized the ‘Annual Meeting on Production and Operation Management of Coal-Fired Power Plant & Press Conference on Release of Coal-Fired Plant Energy Efficiency Management Benchmark in Guangzhou from 28 to 29 Sep., 2021. The Event aimed to discuss the new role of coal while building the New Type of Power System with clean energy as mainstay. Xia Zhong, the Vice President of CEC and Li Licheng, the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered the Welcome and Keynote speeches at the Meeting. More than 400 representatives from power enterprises, industrial media and research institutions participated the Meeting & Press Conference. 

In the speech, Xia Zhong expressed: ‘Coal-fired power generation is facing the new situation and new challenges. In one hand, the nation’s carbon emission reduction policy has significantly impacted the industry and in the other hand, the fixed price cap could also cause the revenue drop of the coal-fired power generation companies.’ Scientific research and development could be the resolutions and it was advised by Xia Zhong that the coal-fired power industry continue to improve the flexibility of coal-fired power plants and the ability of the technological and management innovations. ‘The next step in the benchmarking of energy efficiency for coal-fired power plants will focus on enhancing the value application of benchmarking results, and exploring  the in-depth integration of benchmarking and corporate development. CEC will organize and carry out the researches on major issues such as the "three reforms" (energy saving, heating, flexible transformation), life extension, business operations, coal and electricity contradictions and electricity price mechanisms for coal-fired power generation units, and provides advice and suggestions to government departments. As the think tank of the power industry, CEC will actively build a platform for information exchanging and industry cooperation, and accelerate the transformation and upgrading of coal power generation through standard guidance, industry benchmarking, and technology evaluation.’

The Meeting released the results of the energy efficiency benchmarking of thermal power units in the power industry in 2020. In the meantime, forums on safe operation of thermal power units, digital transformation, circulating fluidized bed power generation technology and operation management were held as side meetings.
