The 6th Symposium on‘China-Proposed Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) Initiative’Held in Beijing

September 27, 2021 /CEC/ - Organized by Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), the Sixth Symposium on‘China-Proposed Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) Initiative’was held on Sep. 26, 2021 in Beijing. The mentioned Event aimed to offer the considerable insight into the great value and significance of ‘GEI Initiative’, took stock of its progress, and discussed the key issues regarding further solutions to the challenges of the global sustainable development. Liu Zhenya, the Chairman of GEIDCO, Zhang Zhigang, the President of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) made the keynote speeches at the Opening Plenary. Yang Kun, the Executive President of China Electricity Council (CEC) was also invited to participate the Event.

Two monographs were released at the Symposium, namely the‘The Road to Global Carbon Neutrality‘ and the‘Biodiversity and Energy Revolution’, aiming to provide comprehensive and efficient solutions for carbon neutrality and biodiversity governance. ‘The Road to Global Carbon Neutrality’ analyzed in depth the grave situation of global climate change, revealed the practical difficulties of each country in carbon mitigation, and elaborates on the ideas, action road maps, key measures and comprehensive values of achieving carbon neutrality through GEI. It provides a technically advanced, cost-effective, and mutually beneficial systematic solution for achieving the temperature control goals of the Paris Agreement. The ‘Biodiversity and Energy Revolution’ analyzed the significance and stern challenges of biodiversity protection, as well as the main factors leading to the biodiversity crisis, and reveals that the unsustainable energy development structure dominated by fossil fuels is the main cause of biodiversity loss. It also proposes the new thinking, new plans and action road maps for GEI to promote the energy and electric power revolution and conserve biodiversity.
