Chinese New Year Greetings from China Electricity Council!

The Year of Mouse has finally went by when the bell of the Year of Ox began to ring. The formidable year that just passed by has seen our courage and toughness, and all the hardships we went through have put us on course to these unbelievable achievements.

Looking back, we were persistent with faith to continuously forge ahead in the year of 2020.

In the past year, power industry had guarded a crucial “electricity lifeline” for the epidemic prevention and control. By delivering power to Leishenshan and Huoshenshan Hospital within 3 and 5 days, providing power access for the largest Mobile Cabin Hospital in Wuhan in 37 hours, and by cutting electricity bills of RMB59.5 billion for power users...... the industry had provided strong support for the coordinated epidemic prevention and control as well as economic and social development.

In this year, power industry had built a security line for poverty alleviation. After finishing upgrading the rural grid nationwide, rural villages and poverty-stricken regions are now fully served with steady and reliable power supply, which contributed to the victory of poverty alleviation.

In 2020, a green power landscape was formed. By the end of 2020, China’s installed power capacity had reached 2.2TW, in which the share of coal-fired power historically fell below 50% for the first time and down to 49.1%. In addition, green and low carbon generation had gain momentum with the share of non-fossil installed capacity increased to 44.8%, growing at an average rate at 13.1% annually during the 13th Five-Year Plan period.

The targets to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 proposed by Chairman Xi Jinping, have clearly showing the way for the future development of the power industry. Therefore, turning on a new chapter, CEC will step up to build towards an international first-class association in close collaboration with our members, and continue to promote the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system centered on electricity.
