CEC holds the 49th Annual Conference of Coal-fired Power Plant Production and Operation Management 2020 and Energy Efficiency Management Benchmarking Conference

On August 19-20, the 49th Annual Conference of Coal-fired Power Plant Production and Operation Management 2020 and Energy Efficiency Management Benchmarking Conference hosted by the China Electricity Council was successfully held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The meeting released the results of the energy efficiency benchmarking of 300MW, 600MW and 1000MW thermal power units in 2019. The Coal-fired Power Industry Safety and Economic Operation Management and Intelligent Transformation and Upgrading Sub-forums were held. Yu Chongde, Vice President and Secretary General of CEC attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Academician Yue Guangxi of Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered keynote speech.

Yu Chongde mentioned in his speech that since the 13th five-year plan, the transformation and upgrading of coal-fired power industry has accelerated in China. The coal-fired power units structure has been continuously optimized, the proportion of large-capacity and high-parameter units has gradually increased, and the unit efficiency and pollutant control of China’s coal-fired units have reached the world's advanced level. Coal-fired power has made great contributions to China's economic and social development and to the safe and stable operation of power system.

Yu Chongde put forward four suggestions on giving full play to the supporting role of coal-fired power in the clean development of power sources: First, reasonably control the scale of coal-fired power and optimize the layout of coal-fired power units structure; second, speed up the flexible transformation of coal-fired power units and improve system regulation; Third, promote the life extension of coal-fired power units and prevent and control the risk of investment of coal-fired power; fourth, to carry out in-depth benchmarking work to continuously improve the energy efficiency of coal power units.

In 2019, a total of 98 units of 1000MW, 406 units of 600MW, 512 units of 300MW and 43 units of 200MW were involved in the energy efficiency benchmarking of thermal power units in the power industry. According to the competition rules, 32 units of 1000MW, 116 units of 600MW and 149 units of 300MW  were selected as winners.

The meeting was co-organized by the State Power Investment Co., Ltd. Nearly 500 representatives from power companies and media attended the meeting.
