Yang Kun held talks with Osamu Tsukamoto, President of the Japan Coal Energy Center

On June 5, Yang Kun, Executive President of CEC, and President of Japan Coal Energy Center (JCOAL) Osamu Tsukamoto held a meeting via online video. Osamu Tsukamoto expressed his gratitude to CEC for its concern and sympathy during the COVID-19. He pointed out that although the global situation of " abandoning coal" has intensified, coal power is still the main power source in many developing countries and regions, especially in Southeast Asia. He hoped that the two sides would further strengthen cooperation and exchanges in clean coal utilization technology, and strive for a low-carbon and resource cyclic society.

Yang Kun said that COVID-19 epidemic has been gradually brought under controll in China, and it is preliminarily estimated that the total electricity consumption of China will increase by 2% - 3% year on year in 2020. He agreed that the development of coal-fired power needs mature, reliable, clean and efficient advanced technology, and the flexibility transformation of coal-fired power units is undergoing in China to improve units’ ability of peak load regulation, and thus to  promote the sustainable and healthy development of coal-fired power enterprises. He stressed that the cooperation consensus reached by CEC and JCOAL  is in line with the future development direction of the industry, and both sides should focus on promoting practical cooperation in new technologies such as carbon dioxide capture and utilization, hydrogen energy utilization, coal ash and slag paving, advanced treatment and utilization of power plant waste water, so as to promote the high-quality and efficient development of coal power. At the end of the meeting, Yang Kun stated that CEC is willing to work with JCOAL to make a positive contribution to the clean and efficient development of coal power worldwide.
