CEC Dedicated to the Development of Northeast Asia Super Grid
Faced with new challenges of climate change, power consumption and renewable energy development, grid interconnection becomes a global demand. The interconnection among Northeast Asia which connects China, Russia, Mongolia, South Korea and Japan is of great meaning for the development of clean renewable energy in Mongolia and Eastern Russia and for larger power accessibility and relieving poverty.
Northeast Asia super grid is a great leap forward to Global Power Interconnection (GEI); and CEC becomes council member of the newly-established GEI Development and Cooperation Organization, President Liu Zhenya being the first Chairman of the organization. The organization was established on the opening ceremony of 2016 International Conference on GEI (GEI2016) on March 30, 2016.
Yang Kun, Executive President of CEC, stated at the conference that international and regional grid interconnection is absolutely necessary for renewable development, environmental protection, regional cooperation, economic development and resource allocation optimization. CEC will take the next step in promoting the development of Northeast power interconnection for it not only has great potential but has also come to the prime time. He proposed to establish the Northeast Asia Regional Power Interconnection and Cooperation Forum (RPIC) with its Secretariat at CEC, and to have its first meeting in Beijing this October. The purpose of the forum is to formulate a regular dialogue and cooperation mechanism for relevant governments, international organizations, power enterprises and research institutes, and to promote Northeast Asia grid interconnection through in-depth exchange of research results.
Yang Kun also met with various stakeholders in the region to discuss topics of interest. All parties expressed their interest and support for Northeast power interconnection, its cooperative mechanism and the first meeting of RPIC.
