CTG Brasil neutralized 100% of direct greenhouse gas emissions related to its operation in 2020, in addition to indirect emissions related to electricity consumption by the company, which totaled 1,332.84 tons of CO2. It is the second consecutive year that the company neutralizes emissions from all its operations considering these two scopes.
The neutralization of emissions has been achieved with the company's adhesion to the Jari-Amapá REDD+ project. The initiative trains agricultural and extractive families in the Amazon to manage the forest sustainably, in an area of 220 thousand hectares, in the Vale do Jari region. The company supports the project with the purchase of carbon credits. "CTG Brasil has in its core business the generation of 100% clean and renewable energy on a large scale and has the ESG factors as elements that strongly guide its long-term strategies, including carbon emission neutralization", explained Marcio Peres, director of Asset Management at the company.
In addition to neutralization, the company was also recognized for another year with the gold seal of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, the most used benchmark in the world to quantify and manage greenhouse gas emissions. In Brazil, the program is developed by the Sustainability Studies Center of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGVces) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment (MMA), Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) , World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBSCD) and 27 founding companies.
Respect for the environment is a premise of CTG Brasil, ranging from its objective of developing the world with clean energy to the permanent support for projects that contribute to environmental conservation. The company promotes environmental and social actions for the sustainable development of the communities surrounding its operations with initiatives that, in 2020, reached R$ 37 million in investments. The actions related in this field are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
