The Kendall Bay Sediment Remediation Project of the SGSP (Australia) Assets Pty Ltd. (SGSPAA) won a silver at the 2021 Edison Awards for “Sustainable Change for the Good”, thanks to its successful first-of-the-world application of the full-scale subaqueous insitu stabilization solution. The Edison Awards, established by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1987, is one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the name of innovation and business success.
The Kendall Bay project, located 10km west of the Sydney Central Business District on the south bank of the Parramatta River, remediates coal tar contamination left by the Mortlake Gasworks. In 2019, approved by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment of New South Wales on May 31, SGSPAA kicked off the project in September and planned to complete it at the end of December 2020 subject to weather and site conditions.
Through careful planning, effective management and working closely with clients, SGSPAA designed and delivered a sediment remediation solution that not only reduced costs by AUD 4,000,000, but also concluded the project ahead of schedule in October 2020. Throughout the project, SGSPAA has been highly recognized by the industrial and local communities for its technological innovation and satisfactory remediation.
