On November 27, Tibet’s first airport-based shore power project was put into operation at a higher plateau port. Replacing aviation auxiliary power units (APUs) with power sources installed on air bridges, the project will supply aircraft after their landing atLhasa Kongga International Airport with clean electricity. It fulfills the commitment of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Administration of CAAC and State Grid Tibet Electric Power Company to the nation’s new development philosophy and building Tibet a demonstration area of ecological conservation.
It is the first airport-based shore power project invested and built by State Grid at a higher plateau port. It is also the first of its kind in Tibet and that invested, built by a third party under the innovative scheme of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Administration of CAAC.
Two 2×90kVA400Hz and two 90kVA 400Hz static frequency converters were installed respectively on four air bridges at Terminal 2 of Lhasa Kongga International Airport, realizing shore power supply at all air bridges. Replacing fuel with electricity will reduce noise, emission, aircraft fuel cost, and promote consumption of clean energy, promising excellent economic, social, and environmental benefits.
According to sources, this project will help save 3,738.2 tons of aviation fuel each year worth RMB 17.75 million, equivalent tosaving5,365.9 tons of standard coal, and reducing carbon dioxide emission by 13,377 tons, sulfur dioxide by 402 tons, and nitrogen oxide by 201 tons. Around 1.1GWh of electricity per year will be consumed for the purpose.
