Since March 2020, the electricity generation and consumption has rebounded significantly. On March 17, the overall power generation in China was 17.9 TWh, an increase of 10.8% from the end of February and a 1% increase from the same period last year. Daily power generation achieved the first positive growth since the Spring Festival in 2020.
According to data from the National Development and Reform Commission, in the first two months of 2020, the national power generation fell by 8.2% year-on-year.
On March 17, in the business areas of SGCC, the daily electricity production and sales has recovered to 83% of the pre-holiday level, which is basically close to the scale of the same period last year. On March 18, the peak load of the whole power network of CSG reached 143GW and the daily electricity production and sales were 2.82 TWh, both exceeding that of the same period last year, increasing by 0.05% and 0.94% respectively.
Major economies are resilient and have room to unleash potential. The data shows that the current resumption of enterprises has achieved positive results, and the impact of COVID-19 is generally short-term and controllable. It is expected that the growth rate of the overall electricity consumption in China will pick up significantly in the second quarter and the second half of 2020 and the power consumption will maintain steady growth throughout the year.
