China Yangtze Power and Hubei Energy Group, two power firms of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), are boosting their electricity generation and water replenishment operations as part of their efforts to secure power and water supply to help fight the coronavirus outbreak in Hubei, the epicenter of the epidemic.
The two firms are key power supplier in Hubei Province, providing about a quarter of electricity the province consumes.
The Three Gorges-Gezhouba cascade power stations have increased output operations by 10 times from January 24 to 31, with a cumulative increase of power output by over 8.55 million kWh. On January 31, the water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir was 168.87m, 2.01m lower than the same period last year, and water replenishment was increased by 650 million m3 compared with the same period last year, guaranteeing the water supply for industrial and household use in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
During the same period, Hubei Energy Group has spared no effort to secure the power supply by executing a three-shift daily duty schedule at its affiliate Ezhou Power Plant. Staff on duty at the front line has strengthened inspection of equipment and facilities as well as monitoring and analyzing operations to guarantee the power supply and help fight epidemic during the Spring Festival holidays.
By February 7, 2020, CTG has supplied approximately 4.5 billion kWh of power to Hubei Province this year, of which 1.4 billion kWh was provided by China Yangtze Power, and 3.1 billion kWh by Hubei Energy Group, an increase of 40.1 percent year-on-year, effectively supporting the epidemic prevention and control operations in the providence.
