SGIDI Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), successfully hoisted the upper component to a voltage booster for an offshore wind farm in Xinghua Bay, Fuqing, on September 29, completing the installation of the first offshore booster in Fujian, featuring the most sophisticated integration in China.
The booster consists of the top platform, bottom pipe structure and four steel pipes / bearing piles, with a contour that spans 50x37.5m maximum. It serves as the heart of the offshore wind farm in Xinghua Bay, joining the power generated from the experimental wind farm with that from Phase II wind farm and transmitting it via the submarine cable to the landing point before connecting to the grid.
The voltage booster in Xinghua Bay is the first one in China to integrate all functions that are needed in offshore farms, offering a new solution of building an offshore wind farm with insufficient resources of landing points. Meanwhile, it is the first offshore voltage booster to feature bearing piles in China, providing a new way of design and construction of offshore voltage boosters in shallow coverage regions.
