Asia Pacific's largest offshore turbine rolls off the line in CTG's industry park

The first 10-megawatt offshore wind turbine of Dongfang Electric Corporation (DEC) and the first 8-megawatt offshore wind turbine of Goldwind Technology were successfully rolled off production line on 25 September in the Three Gorges Offshore Wind Power International Industrial Park in Fujian Province, China.

The industrial park is the first of its kind in China, jointly developed by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) and the City of Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province.

The 10-megawatt wind turbine has the largest single unit capacity in Asia Pacific and the second largest in the world. It has excellent active typhoon resistance performance. At an average annual wind speed of 10 meters per second, a single unit can generate 40 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, reducing coal consumption by 13,000 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 35,000 tons.

Wang Lin, general manager of CTG, said that the successful launch of the two turbines was an important landmark achievement for China's localization of major offshore wind power equipment and its efforts to become a major offshore wind powerhouse.

It indicated that China had basically mastered the key core technology of the R&D and manufacturing of large-capacity offshore wind power equipment, Wang added.

The two proprietary wind turbines, jointly developed by CTG and the relevant research, design and main engine manufacturing units, have greatly improved the environmental adaptability, equipment reliability and wind energy utilization efficiency.
