Xiangjiaba: power generation hit 190 billion kWh since full operation
The Xiangjiaba Dam, operated by the China Yangtze Power, an affiliate of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), has generated a total of 190 billion kWh power over the past five years since it started full operation.
The Dam celebrated the fifth anniversary for full-load operation of its eight power units on July 10. Electricity generated from Xiangjiaba is distributed to Central China and East China through DC UHV to power the country's economic development.
Xiangjiaba Dam consists of eight 750 MW power units with a total installed capacity of 6.4 GW, making it the world's largest single-capacity hydroelectric turbine generator in service. The newly-operational ship lifts and the power generation units were running smoothly with safety operation further improved.
Located at the border of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, the Xiangjiaba Dam is mainly designed for power generation with other auxiliary functions such as improving navigation conditions, flood control, irrigation, sand interception, and counter-regulation of the Xiluodu Dam, etc.
The combined installed capacity of the project, the last power station in the cascade system of the lower reaches of the Jinsha River, and the 12.6 million kW-Xiluodu Dam located at the upstream, is equivalent to that of the Three Gorges Project.
