China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), the world's largest hydropower operator, attended the 2019 World Hydropower Congress, which kicked off in Paris on May 14 under the theme of "the power of water in a sustainable, interconnected world".
Ken Adams, President of International Hydropower Association (IHA), Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency and other senior officials and representatives attended the opening ceremony, calling on countries, international organizations, energy firms and communities from all over the world to continually push forward the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement to boost the sustainable development of renewable energy sources including hydropower.
Lin Chuxue, Vice President of International Hydropower Association and Executive Vice President of CTG delivered a speech at the "Business Leader Roundtable" panel held during the opening ceremony, sharing CTG's practice and experience on sustainable development through hydropower and offering suggestions on how to boost sustainable development of renewables.
He said CTG has always been committed to promoting the sustainable development of renewable energy as 95% of the company's installed capacity are from clean energy. He also introduced CTG's large-scale hydropower projects in Yangtze River and the group's other renewable energy projects including wind power and solar power.
World Hydropower Congress, considered as the most important event in world hydropower industry, has been held biannually since 2007. The current session was hosted by IHA whose strategic partners include CTG, Electricite De France, General Electric and The Nature Conservancy. The 2019 World Hydropower Congress brought together more than 700 representatives from industry, government, finance, and academia from around the world.
