The Isimba Hydroelectric Power Station in Uganda, built by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), officially received Certificate of Completion & Handover from Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) on April 12, marking the official start of the project's commercial operation after months of trial running.
The Isimba Hydroelectric Power Station now enters the maintenance period after the MEMD and Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd officially took over the project and the construction of the permanent bridge for the downstream project of the dam will kick off in the near future. Electricity produced by the dam has been connected to the national grid, alleviating the power shortage in Uganda and helping drive the country's economic development.
Dubbed the "Pearl on the White Nile", Isimba Hydroelectric Power Station was built by China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), an affiliate of CTG, in an EPC model. The total installed capacity of the power station is 183MW, with key facilities including the power house featuring 4 axial-flow propeller turbine units, the spillway, left and right bank earth and rockfill dams, the switch station as well as 42km 132kV power transmission and distribution lines. All of four power generation units at the dam commenced operation on January 14 as scheduled.
