POWERCHINA and the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS) signed an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract for the Koukutamba hydropower project in Conakry, capital of Guinea, on Feb 26.
The signing ceremony was attended by Guinean President Alpha Conde and Guinea's Minister of Energy and Water Cheick Taliby Sylla.
Sylla said that, "an important stage has finally passed." President Alpha Conde congratulated POWERCHINA and said that he hoped that the project would start as soon as possible.
Ding Zhengguo, chairman of POWERCHINA-Intl, said in his speech that POWERCHINA has actively participated in the development of the Senegal River basin for many years. The Koukutamba Hydropower Station is the third hydropower project that the company has collaborated with OMVS, following the Felou Hydropower Station in Mali and the Guyana Hydropower Station.
POWERCHINA will adhere to the concept of open and honest cooperation, and continue to participate in and contribute their expertise to the development of projects in the Senegal River basin.
The company is willing to cooperate with countries along the basin, further promote the Belt and Road Initiative on the African continent, and deepen China-Africa cooperation on infrastructure and production capacity.
The EPC contract value of the Koukutamba hydropower project amounted to $812.8 million, equivalent to about 5.42 million yuan. The project is located in the province of Tougue, Central Guinea.
