A delegation led by Mr. Santichai Osotpavapusit, president of Egat International Co (EGATi), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, paid a visit to Three Gorges Dam on February 20.
The five-member delegation visited the exhibition hall, the five-step ship lock, ship lift, the power plants on the left river bank, control room and the dam as part of their mission to learn first-hand operations and ecological preservation at the world’s biggest hydropower station.
The delegation also made inquires about other aspects of the Three Gorges project such as its impounding capacity, the passage of 10,000-ton ship from Shanghai to Chongqing via ship lock, the 30-plus minutes of passage of a 3,000-ton ship through the ship lift that is equivalent to the height of a 40-story building and the rare and endemic plant introduction, domestication and transplanting techniques mastered by the Yangtze River Rare Plant Research Institute.
The Thailand delegation marveled at the Three Gorges Dam and acknowledged the tremendous achievements CTG has made in the construction, operations and environment protection of the dam.
