Liu Zhenya Visits Cameroon Promoting the Development of African Energy Interconnection
Recently, Liu Zhenya, Chairman of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), paid a visit to Cameroon, and met with Philemon Yang, Prime Minister of Cameroon, and main leaders of Cameroon's energy and mineral departments and power enterprises. They had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad consensus on issues such as accelerating the building of Africa Energy Interconnection, promoting the co-development of electricity, mining, metallurgy, industry and trade, and initiating the establishment of the African Energy Interconnection Sustainable Development Alliance (AEISDA).
Mr. Liu introduced the great significance and roadmap of GEI. He pointed out that Africa, with rich resources and a large population, enjoys enormous potential for development. Building African Energy Interconnection and promoting the co-development of electricity, mining, metallurgy, industry and trade will transform Africa's advantages in clean energy and mineral resources into economic and development potentials as soon as possible, and create pillar industries and new engines for Africa's economic growth. AEISDA, jointly launched by GEIDCO and Guinean government, will provide an important platform for governments, enterprises, financial institutions and other parties to foster result-oriented partnerships, which has received extensive support and response from many African countries.
All parties concerned, likewise, showed high endorsement and strong support to the development of African Energy Interconnection, AEISDA, and the co-development of electricity, mining, metallurgy, industry and trade. Prime Minister Philemon Yang indicated that the Cameroonian government attaches great importance to and supports the Initiative of GEI.And the co-development of electricity, mining, metallurgy, industry and trade proposed by GEIDCO is perfectly in line with the development needs of Africa and Cameroon. The Cameroonian government is willing to join in AEISDA and welcomes Chinese and international enterprises to invest in Cameroon to support Cameroon's energy and mineral development and electrification progress. According to Gaston Eloundou Essomba, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Cameroon, African Energy Interconnection has provided a set of systematic and complete solutions to guarantee Africa's energy supply and sustainable development. With regard to this, Cameroon will speed up efforts to boost its domestic and transnational power grids interconnection and upgrade electrification, in a bid to realize green and low-carbon development. Ngalle BibeheJean Ernest Massena, Minister of Mines, Industries and Technological Development said that Cameroon will seize the development opportunities of African Energy Interconnection to deepen international cooperation and accelerate the implementation of relevant project plans. Mbemi Nyaknga, General Manager of Cameroonian National Electricity Transmission Corporation(SONATREL), pointed out that Cameroon abounds with clean energy and mineral resources and has great potential for power grid interconnection. It is practical and feasible to co-develop electricity, mining, metallurgy, industry and trade, which has pointed the way for Cameroon's development in energy, electricity, economy and society. Theodore Nsangou, General Manager of the Electricity Development Corporation (EDC) of Cameroon, was in favor of GEIinitiative . In his view, the development planning proposed by GEIDCO is very clear and highly consistent with the development ideas of Cameroon, thus is of great reference and guiding significance.
During the visit, Mr. Liu and his delegation also visited the Chinese Embassy in Cameroon and introduced the GEI Initiativeand its implementation in Africa.
