Nam Tha, Laos - After a 72-hour pilot operation, all three units of the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Project have been officially placed into operation, indicating the launch of its pre-commercial operations.
During the on-grid adjustment and testing, the three units completed all pilot projects and experimental data from the facility have met all relevant standards and design requirements, laying a firm foundation for on-going efforts.
The Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Station lies in Laos' Bokeo Province and Luang Nam Tha Province.
Its power generation capacity is expected to reach 721 GWh, which can provide green electrical power to more than two million people.
In addition to providing power for the local and regional communities, the hydropower station can also transmit power to western Thailand and the border regions of Myanmar and Laos, which is expected to empower Laos to transmit its power abroad.
In the next phase of the project, the Nam Tha 1 Lao Power Company will steadily promote the close out and operation of the project and work for a license for commercial operations in June 2019.
Staff of the Lu Bu Ge Hydropower Station, which is affiliated with the CSG Power Generation Company, were dispatched to the station and is currently overseeing the operation, marking the new beginning of CSG’s endeavor to run an overseas power station.
