Offshore wind is one of the key fields in renewable energy development given its abundant resource, high AUHs, no land occupation and availability of large scale development. By the end of June 2020, the cumulative installed capacity of offshore wind power reached 6.9GW. In spite of its huge potential, offshore wind is still at its early stage of development in China, where issues on policies, cost, subsidies and standards still exist.
By giving a comprehensive analyzation of the current status of offshore wind development, the research further discussed the existing problems around policy environment, technical cost and ecological safety, etc.. In addition, the prospect of offshore wind development has been analyzed with policy suggestions provided on promoting high-quality development of offshore wind power.
