Yongfu DC Transmission Project -- China’s First Provincial DC Transmission Project Put Into Operation

　　Recently, China’s first provincial DC transmission project, Yongfu ±500kV DC Transmission Project in Yunnan Province (hereinafter referred to as Yongfu DC Project), was put into operation. The project serves as the main power transmission channel in Yunnan Province and is an important part of CSG’s west-to-east power transmission network. It allows electricity to be transmitted out of Guanyinyan Hydropower Plant, a large-scale hydropower plant on the upper reaches of the Jinsha River, and from Yunnan Province to Guangxi Province, helping optimize the distribution of clean energy in a greater area.

　　With a total investment of RMB 6.365 billion, Yongfu DC Project consists of two converter stations with a DC transmission line of 566 kilometers. Starting at Yongren County, Chuxiong City, Yunnan Province, and ending at Funing County, Wenshan City, Yunnan Province, it operates at a norminal voltage of ±500kV and a rated power of 3GW.

New technologies and equipment were applied in the project. DC transmission and distribution technologies were used for the first time in a DC transmission system, through which 300MW can be transmitted in three ways, namely, 300MW to Yunnan Province, 300MW to Guangxi Province, and 150MW to Yunnan Province and 150KW to Guangxi Province.
