Phnom Penh, Cambodia - October 14, 2016 - Mr. Li Qingkui, Chairman of the Board of China Southern Power Grid (http://eng.csg.cn), led a delegation of energy officials and company executives to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, here in Phnom Penh.
The two sides exchanged critical, time-sensitive views on CSG’s investment in Cambodia’s power industry.
Mr. Li expressed his most sincere greetings to Prime Minister Hun, stating that, “President Xi Jinping’s most recent visit to Cambodia was fruitful. The two heads of state lifted China-Cambodia traditional friendship to a new heights and created favorable conditions for Chinese enterprises to further participate in promoting Cambodia’s economic and social progress as well as improving Cambodian’s livelihood”.
Mr. Li also made a brief introduction of China Southern Power Grid, reviewing the company history and extensive energy production and delivery experience.
As part of his detailed brief presentation of China’s power industry, Mr. Li also revealed his negotiations with Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy, Electricite du Cambodge (EDC), Royal Group as well as CSG’s international student training and power investment cooperation.
In addition, Li offered timely suggestions on promoting the sustainable development of Cambodia’s power industry and connectivity.
Mr. Li said, “CSG will earnestly carry out the instructions made by President Xi during his visit, actively implement the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ and work with relevant Cambodian Government departments and enterprises to seek more opportunities for power cooperation, so as to bring tangible benefits to our two peoples”.
He added that CSG, “will fully leverage its strength in grid planning, construction and operation, technology, capital, management and talent to push forward the tangible results found through the China-Cambodia traditional friendship through cooperation.
During his remarks, Prime Minister Hun expressed his appreciation for CSG’s effort in Cambodia, also noting that President Xi’s recent visit, “was of significance in deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and China and conducive to promoting extensive cooperation between the two sides. The Cambodian Government always attaches great importance to the development of the power industry, treats power as a key engine of Cambodia’s economic development and have actively expanded power generation and supplies”.
He added that, “In the future, Cambodia will pay greater attention to a balanced development of both power and grid, take efforts to bring electricity to more residents and keep reducing society’ s power costs”.
Prime Minister Hun said that he was in favor of the suggestions proposed by Mr. Li on Cambodia’s power development and welcomed CSG’s participation in and support of the development of Cambodia’s power industry to which the Cambodian Government would lend its full support.
Leaders of CSG’s Planning and Development Department, International Cooperation Department, Yunnan Power Grid Company and Yunnan International Co., Ltd., also attended the meeting.
