Laos Vice Premier Visits Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Project

Bokeo, Laos - Laos Vice Premier Bounthong Chitmany, a member of the Political Bureau of Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and the President of Party Central and State Inspection Committee, visited the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Project to express his satisfaction with its current development.

Vice Premier Chitmany and Bokeo Governor Khamphanh Pheuyavong arrived at the Hardmoauk resettlement site of the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Project in Bokeo Province and inspected the construction of the site.

Senior management officials of CSG International Co., Ltd. and Nam Tha 1 Lao Power Company Limited also accompanied their visit.

Premier Chitmany said the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Station “is a key project that embodies the friendship between Laos and China. It plays an important role in meeting the demand for electricity of Bokeo Province and promoting the development of local economy”.

He added that he was “satisfied with the development of the project, and hope that it can be put into operation within this calendar year.”

Premier Chitmany also urged project management to accomplish the resettlement work and help the immigrants come back to their normal life, and that the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Laos, as well as the local governments of Bokeo Province could give full support to the project.

The head of the China Southern Power Grid International Co., Ltd. saidthat CSG International “would spare no effort to finish the project and the resettlement, setting an example in deepening the cooperation in other electricity projects between CSG and Laos and further contributing to the economic development of Laos”.

The Hardmoauk resettlement site is the largest one among all resettlement sites of the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Project. With immigration work completed in 2016, the site to date has 566 households with more than 3,000 residents.
