Qingdao, Shandong - The Second Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Meeting was recently held here in Qingdao as the Power Grid EPC Project in Northern Laos, undertaken by China Southern Power Grid, was awarded the Best Practice Benefiting People's Livelihood.
The Power Grid EPC Project is invested by Électricité du Laos (EDL) and built by CSG Yunnan International Co., Ltd. as the general contractor.
Électricité du Laos is the state corporation of Laos that owns and operates the country's electricity generation, electricity transmission and electricity distribution assets. The Company also manages the import and export of electricity from the national electricity grid of the country
Power Grid EPC Project sustains such major responsibilities as powerline networking across Laos, hydropower transmission in the Nam Wu River Basin and a future power grid interconnection between China and Laos.
Placed into operation in September 2015, the Project earned the prestigious Laos National Quality Engineering Award, Outstanding Achievement Award and Early Completion Award.
After the project was put into operation, the power grid in northern Laos was upgraded from 115 kV to 230 kV.
In total, the Power Grid EPC Project forms a unified national electrical network in Laos, which not only provides reliable power supply for economic and social development in northern Laos and the construction and operation of the China-Laos Railway … but also strongly boosts the development of hydroelectric power in the Nam Wu River Basin.
As a result, construction and full use of the Power Grid EPC Project plays an active role in local energy transformation, green development, economic growth and improvement of people’s livelihood … and likewise has earned many accolades by local government officials and people from throughout Laos.
While advancing the 230 kV Power Grid EPC Project, China Southern Power Grid senior managers earnestly implemented the principle of mutual consultation, contribution and shared benefits for this important “Belt and Road Initiative” project and upheld the concept of “sincerity and tolerance” to neighboring countries.
On the basis of building a vibrant Sino/Laos community with a shared future, the Power Grid EPC Project promotes electric power cooperation, gave full play to its advantages, and set a new electrical benchmark for Laos in power grid usage.
The project has also become a model of mutual benefit and “win-win” cooperation on power grid construction and operation in the Lancang-Mekong Region.
