Since the operation at the end of 2013, the Nuozhadu-Guangdong ±800 kV UHVDC Transmission Project and the double-circuit Xiluodu-Guangdong ±500 kV DC Transmission Project (hereinafter referred to as “Two DC Projects” ) constructed and operated by CSG have transmitted 102.7TWh clean hydropower in total, saving 3.29 million tons of standard coal, reducing the emission of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide by 8.22 and 0.63 million tons respectively, improving the outward delivery of clean hydropower in Yunnan and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction in the five provinces of southern China.
The Two DC Projects, as important channels of CSG’s West-East Electricity Transmission Project during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, increased the scale of power transmission by 11.4 GW. This year, in order to alleviate the serious drought in Vietnam and other countries along the Mekong River, CSG promptly started the emergency dispatching of electricity generated by the cascade hydropower stations in the region, optimized the power generation arrangement at Nuozhadu among other hydropower stations, and continued to maintain the operational transmission channels for surplus power generation. By the end of April, it had supplied water to the lower reaches of Lancang River for 47 consecutive days, and had transmitted 5.4TWh electricity to Guangdong through the Nuozhadu DC Project, with a year-on-year growth of 26%. Meanwhile, in order to effectively deal with the possible flood situation in the Yangtze River Basin this year, CSG formulated emergency measures in case of water level decrease at Xiluodu hydropower station, and further increased the station’s power generation. The accumulative power generation amounted to 6TWh in the first four months of this year, with a year-on-year growth of 11%, which is 1TWh more than the amount listed in the annual plan. All the generated electricity was transmitted to Guangdong Province through Xiluodu DC Project.
This year, several rivers in southern China enter the flood period earlier than usual and the rainfall is also heavier than the multi-year average. It is estimated that the annual transmission volume of the Two DC Projects will exceed 50TWh for the first time, about a quarter of the total transmission volume of CSG’s West-East Electricity Transmission Project.
