CSG Engages in Constructing Utility Tunnels in First Pilot Cities

Both Haikou city, Hainan Province and Liupanshui city, Guizhou Province are among the first ten pilot cities to build underground utility tunnels. CSG attaches great importance to utility tunnel construction in both cities. It presses ahead with efforts to plan and arrange power lines and cooperates closely with local governments of Haikou and Liupanshui so as to steadily promote the tunnel construction.

Utility tunnels are public passages built underground to carry utility lines such as electricity, communications, telecast, water and sewer, gas, etc. They can improve urban construction and governance as well as the comprehensive loading capacity of cities.

Haikou will invest RMB 3.85 billion yuan to construct the 43.2-kilometer utility tunnel, with pipelines installed at the end of 2016. The tunnels will be put into operation at the beginning of 2017. CSG has made active efforts to integrate power grid planning, special planning and utility tunnel planning. It strived to solve the bottleneck in power grid construction with the newly-built utility tunnels. CSG has completed the Haikou 13th Five-Year Plan for Power Distribution and has started compiling the Special Planning for Cable Trench in Haikou. CSG is also trying to incorporate the special planning into the General Planning for Underground Utility Tunnels in Haikou.

Liupanshui plans to invest RMB 2.994 billion yuan in building the 40-kilometer utility tunnel, scheduled to start operation in June, 2017. CSG has compiled the Planning for Supporting Power Grid for Utility Tunnels in Liupanshui, in which the scale, investment and priorities of the project are made clear. It is estimated that by 2017, the supporting grid project will cover 74 circuits with a 230- million-RMB investment, stretching over 227 kilometers. CSG has also launched preparatory work for supporting grid projects in the light of the construction process of utility tunnels, grid operation and power demand. It has put into place the preparatory work for the construction of 8-circuit 10 KV power lines and will start soon the preparatory work for the construction of 4-circuit 10KV power lines, and will begin the construction in due time.
