Li Qingkui Attends APEC CEO Summit Peru 2016

LIMA, Peru - Mr. Li Qingkui, Board Chairman of China Southern Power Grid (CSPG) was in attendance at the Opening Ceremony of the recent APEC CEO Summit Peru 2016 (www.apecceosummit2016.com) held in Lima’s historic Grand National Theater.

The CEO Summit provides Asia-Pacific businessmen the opportunity to attend presentations by business leaders, scholars and opinion leaders worldwide and of Heads of State of the member economies (leaders), and to discuss with them these presentations and other critical issues of the global economy and business.

The CEO Summit is held within the framework of APEC and is organized by ABAC.

During his trip to South America, Mr. Li also paid a personal visit to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM) and held private talks with the Vice Minister Ricardo Reyes.

Since China and Peru had already established a long-term comprehensive strategic partnership, Mr. Li Said, “CSG would follow the ‘Belt and Road Initiative” and fully leverage the company’s strength in technology and management to strengthen its cooperation with Peru in power grid planning, project investment, construction and operation, for the common development of the two countries”.

Vice Minister Reyes introduced the overall position of Peru’s power grids and its power transmission and distribution projects yet to be developed.

He applauded CSG’s asset size, international projects and its technological strengths in operating long-distance, large volume and ultra-high-voltage power transmission and hybrid AC-DV operation.

Vice Minister Reyes also invited CSG to actively engage in the development of Peru’s electricity sector and expressed his willingness to offer time-sensitive support.

At the conclusion of the APEC CEO Summit Peru 2016, Mr. Li and his delegation continued their South America trip, traveling to Rio de Janeiro for further high-level meetings with leaders of Brazil's National Electricity System Operator (ONS) and its national electricity planning company Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE).

Mr. Luiz Eduardo Barata, Director General of ONS, and Mr. Luis Augusto Barroso, President of EPE, were in attendance these meetings where Mr. Li presented a general introduction of China Southern Power Grid with the goal of “creating a new foundation for strategic cooperation, carried out on the basis of the two countries’ similarity in their power grids”.

The Director of CSG System Operation Department presented the company’s power dispatching and challenges faced.

Mr. Barata discussed the previous exchanges between CSG and ONS at multiple levels and made suggestions about current and future high-level mutual visits, technology exchanges and cooperation agreement renewal in 2017.

Technology experts of ONS introduced the company’s electricity operating business in hopes of generating further cooperation with CSG in terms of new energy integration in power grids.

Mr. Barroso presented a brief introduction to the main functions of EPE and expressed his organization’s desire to cooperate with CSG in electricity planning.

During his stay in Brazil, Mr. Li also investigated the local electricity market and the social condition for electricity investment.

He took a site visit to the Operating Center of the holding company of SGGCC in Brazil to learn about its asset status, development model, human resources and operations. In addition, Mr. Li also went to the Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam co-owned by Brazil and Uruguay to learn about its equipment, operation, as well as supervision system.

Heads of the International Cooperation Department, System Operation Department and CSG International Co., Ltd accompanied Mr. Li during the visits to the APEC CEO Summit Peru 2016 as well as in Brazil and attended relevant meetings.
