Since the launch of special power supply services for the 20th Anniversary of the return of Macao on November 19, the Guangdong Power Grid Corporation Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau has ramped-up inspection of its power facilities to Macao. Bureau maintenance staff of the transmission line (shown above) inspect the operational status of the facilities in a cable tunnel located in Hengqin.
In November, the Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau started joint “manual + UAV” maintenance inspections of the power supply lines for Macao during a walkthrough of a utility tunnel in Hengqin New District.
On June 30, 2019, the Zhuhai 220 kV Diequan Substation was placed into operation and became the third 220 kV-class substation in the Hengqin New District - which greatly improved the reliability of power supplies in the area and the South Power Channel to Macao.
The annual Macao International Fireworks Festival is a perfect counterpart with the night scenes of Macao and Zhuhai.
Zhuhai - Year 2019 marks the 20th Anniversary of the return of Macao to China and the 35th Anniversary of China Southern Power Grid’s power supply to Macao.
Data show that by December 1, 2019, CSG's electricity transmission to Macao had totaled more than 50 TWh, reaching 50.009 TWh, a new breakthrough in CSG's power supplies to Macao.
CSG customizes an energy security system for the Greater Bay Area and strengthens Guangdong-Macao power cooperation
Guangdong's power supplies to Macao began back in July 1984. At that time, it was the Zhuhai Power Grid that supplied power to Macao via the 110 kV Zhuhai-Macao Line AB, with an annual power supply of only 0.047 TWh. In Year 1999, the returning year of Macao to China, the power supply to Macao was 0.195 TWh.
Today, electrical power is supplied to Macao through the 6-circuit 220 kV line and 4-circuit 110 kV line. During Year 2018, about 4.9 TWh were transmitted to Macao, nearly 24 times that of Year 1999.
It has been nine years since the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Power Corporation Summit was initiated by CSG and during this summit in Year 2011, a high-level communication mechanism for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao power enterprises was established.
Mechanisms for power grid's communication and coordination in the three areas were significantly enhanced.
Currently, the comprehensive construction of the Greater Bay Area places substantially higher requirements on the reliability of power supplies to Macao.
CSG has released 26 key measures to serve the development of the area with plans to invest more than 170 billion RMB (about 24 billion USD) in the Pearl River Delta power grid over the next five years.
These steps also call for building an energy security system that meets the needs of this international bay area and fully serve the construction of the area by guaranteeing steady and reliable power supplies.
Zhuhai's power supply reliability rate ranks first in China
On July 2, 2019, the National Energy Administration released the “Power Supply Reliability Index Report of National Prefectural-level Administrative District in 2018”, with Zhuhai ranking first with a reliability rate of 99.989%.
The Guangdong Power Grid Corporation Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau, which is responsible for power supplies to Zhuhai and Macao, is 100% committed to the construction of smart grids and guaranteed power grids while continuing to improve its power transmission support capabilities for Macao.
Macao and the Hengqin Island in Zhuhai are close neighbors separated only by a strip of water. The island is at the forefront of power supplies to Macao and at present, a power tunnel stretching about 22 kilometers has been placed into operation.
The intelligent inspection system within the tunnel, with the new “manual + UAV inspection” model, is a showcase for the country as the island's Qinyun substation is China's first 220KV 3C green substation.
In addition to providing power for the Hengqin New District, the substation is also an important part of CSG's power grid structure for providing power safe and consistent power supplies to Macao. Through technological innovation, the intelligent operation control technology adopted in the substation, greatly reduces possible failure rates.
The guaranteed power grid project is targeted at many key power supply users, such as hospitals, water plants and elevators. By adopting higher standards for planning and construction than conventional power grids, the project aims to secure power supplies and improve power restoration while minimizing the impact of natural disasters on society, economy, and people's livelihood.
At present, 23 of the 28 items in the Zhuhai's guaranteed power grid project are on-line and after the entire project is completed, power supplies to Macao will have an additional layer of security even during extreme weather events.
New power regulations re-vitalize Macao's industry
The Guangdong-Macao Cooperative Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park is the first implemented project between Guangdong and Macao, known as the “the window to the world of Chinese medicine”.
In order to meet the power demands of this industrial park, in June 2019, the Zhuhai Hengqin Power Supply Bureau built a switch station which saved an investment of 3.27 million RMB (0.5 million USD) and reduced the “power-on” time of the project by about 45 days.
In July of the same year, after learning that there were five projects remaining under construction in the industrial park, account managers made an immediate decision to install two switch boxes for the project. The total time for power transmission of the project was only 35 days, saving 2.12 million RMB (0.3 million USD) in power connection costs for all business and leisure customers.
