Shenzhen's Total Electricity Consumption and Power Supply Both Exceeded 100 billion kWh

On December 6, China Southern Power Grid announced that Shenzhen's total electricity consumption and power supply both exceeded 100 billion kWh. It is estimated that the annual electricity supply will amount to 106.62 billion kWh, an increase of 12.9% year-on-year; and the total electricity consumption this year is expected to reach 110.43 billion kWh, 12.3% more than last year.
After Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Chongqing, Shenzhen has become the fifth city in China with both power supply and electricity consumption exceeding 100 billion kWh.
The power grid in Shenzhen is a super-large urban one with the largest load density of urban power supply in China. On average, every kWh of electricity supplied contributes to 28 yuan of GDP, and the electricity consumption per unit of GDP is about 1/3 of the national average, which takes the lead domestically.
Shenzhen has topped nationwide in getting electricity since 2019 when the indicator was adopted. It enjoys the most reliable power supply across the world, which underpins the building of a market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized business environment in this city.
The Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau has been committed to implementing a new strategy of energy security via revolution and cooperation. It continues to consolidate the construction of the power grid, makes transformation with digital technologies, optimizes the dispatching process and operation and builds a modern system of power supply.
With a high-quality, clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system now in place, it has played an exemplary role in achieving peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), the bureau plans to invest 47 billion yuan in building the power grid to accelerate the construction of a world-class urban power grid.
In doing so, it will support Shenzhen in growing into a global pacesetter with outstanding competitiveness, innovative capacity and influence.
