Mr. Shi accompanied Mr. Chhuon Dara, Secretary of State of the Cambodia Ministry of Commerce, Zhang Wei, Vice Chairman of CCPIT, as well as Mr. Tan Qingsheng, Charge D’affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Cambodia, to visit China Southern Power Grid’s stand in the exhibition hall, during which they all spoke highly of CSG for its contributions to transmitting clean energy and operation of the complex electric power grid.
During his subsequent goodwill visit in Cambodia, Mr. Shi paid a visit to the Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Royal Group of Cambodia and held private talks with Mr. Abu Lang, the first Secretary of State of MME and Mr. Thomas Pianka, Vice President of the Royal Group, and represented CSG in signing the “Implementation Agreement 2017 for Training Cambodian Students ” and “Implementation Agreement 2017 for Training Cambodian Postgraduate Students” with the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
During his meeting with Mr. Abu, Mr. Shi introduced to him the basic outline of China Southern Grid, then reviewed a series of company achievements in bilateral cooperation accomplished after Chairman Li Qingkui visited Cambodia last October.
At the request of MME, apart from accepting the annual five university undergraduates recommended to CSG by the MME, CSG agreed to assist Cambodia in nurturing another 10 postgraduate students by providing them with scholarship funds to continue their university studies in China.
Mr. Shi believed these students “will serve as the channel for deepening China-Cambodia electric power cooperation in the future.”
In recent years, Cambodia has been actively supporting and participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, leading to its prosperous economic development.
Mr. Shi commented, “Rapid economic development calls for a more developed electric power grid and stable power supply as plank. CSG has accumulated abundant experiences and technical advantages in power grid planning and construction, operational control and UHVDC, and we hope to make more mutually beneficial exchanges with MME and EDC to widen bilateral cooperation and tap these important advantages in capital, technologies, talents and management to help Cambodia develop electric power, so as to make meaningful contributions to Cambodia’s economic growth and people’s living standards and also to China-Cambodia friendly cooperation.”
On behalf of MME, Mr. Abu expressed his appreciation for CSG’s long-term support as it nurtures “people-to-people” talents for Cambodia’s electric power development and welcomed CSG’s active support for the country’s electric power and economic development.
Mr. Abu said, “talents are the biggest impetus for national development. The international training program launched by CSG, works to meet Cambodia’s demands for exceptionally talented individuals in electric power development”.
Mr. Abu announced MME plans to dispatch a working group to Guangzhou and China Southern Power Grid for in-depth communication and cooperation.
During his meeting with Mr. Pianka, Mr. Shi stressed that CSG, “highly values its friendly relationship with the Royal Group, hoping the two sides could give full play to their respective advantages to intensify the development of power grid projects and accomplish cooperative projects as soon as possible.”
Mr. Shi said he hoped that CSG, “would deepen its communication and cooperation with the Royal Group and participate in the development of Cambodia’s electric power market to achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes, serving as a model for others in China-Cambodia friendly cooperation.
Mr. Pianka briefed the visiting Chinese delegation on Cambodia’s electric power planning and development, saying, “Cambodia is sparing no effort in developing power supply projects and because of its lagged power grid construction, the Royal Group is willing to cooperate with CSG in power transmission and distribution, so as to promote the upgrading and transformation of Cambodia’s power development.”
Principals of CSG’s Publicity Department, Planning and Development Department and International Cooperation Department as well as Yunnan International Ltd., Co. attended these meeting in Phnom Penh.
