CSG Vice President Wang Jiuling visits University of Birmingham

The 2015 UK-China-US Smart Grid Workshop was held in University of Birmingham on September 22, 2015. Opening remarks were given respectively by Professor Sir David Eastwood, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, Mr. Wang Jiuling, Vice President of CSG, and Mr. Jiang Su-nan, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Britain. Attendees included 67 guests from energy departments, energy industries, and colleges and universities in China, UK and the US. Keynote speeches were delivered by representatives from CSG Technology Department, System Operation Department, Science and Research Institute of CSG, and Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau, introducing the scientific and technological development of CSG in the field of smart grid.

At the workshop, Mr. Wang Jiuling introduced the cooperation and communication between CSG and University of Birmingham. He also noted that the agreement would establish a platform for closer cooperation, through which ways to address problems and challenges confronted could be discussed.

After the workshop, Mr. Wang Jiuling visited the Cryogenic Energy Storage, Electric Vehicle Center, Hydrogen Center for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research, and the Smart Grid Laboratory sponsored by the UK Government and the National Grid PLC. In the Smart Grid Laboratory, researchers demonstrated the experiment of offshore wind farm synchronization control and protection based on the MMC-MTDC system, and introduced the achievement of eliminating commutation failure in DC transmission system.

At the workshop, Mr. Wang Jiuling had a further talk with Andy Schofield, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of University of Birmingham reaching a consensus on the cooperation concerning energy storage technology, elimination of commutation failure in DC transmission system, and talents cultivation and exchanges.
