Huaneng Jinghong Hydropower Station Operated Units to Exceed 1000 MW

At 13:30 on November 25, 2008, unit 3 of Huaneng Jinghong Hydropower Station passed the 72-hour test run and was formally transferred to the station for commercial operation. This is the third unit put into operation at Jinghong Hydropower Station in less than half a year. So far, the installed capacity of the units of Jinghong Hydropower Station that have been put into operation has reached 1.05 GW, overstepping the 1000 MW threshold.

The total installed capacity of Jinghong Hydropower Station is 1.75 GW (5 sets of 350MW unit). Earlier,the first two units were put into operation on July 19 and August 5 successfully this year, while all the units will be put into operation in 2009. Since construction of the station started in July 2003, the constructors have overcome many difficulties, starting construction, excavation of foundation pit and pouring of concrete all completed in the same year. The river was dammed 10 months ahead of schedule and connected the first unit synchronized with the grid for power generation 7 months ahead of schedule, setting a speed record in the construction of similar power stations in China.
