Huaneng Making Obvious Achievements in Energy Saving & Emission Reduction

In 2007, Huaneng pushed forward energy saving and emission reduction by strengthening the implementation of the “Three Responsibility Statements”, “one-vote-down system” and “3 simultaneous”; modified and improved the plan for creating a saving and environmentally-sound enterprise, clarified the standard for energy saving and emission reduction, continued to carry out the move for creating a saving and environmentally-friendly enterprise; improved the examination system with the “one-vote-down system” as a primary content and further improved the mechanism of energy saving and emission reduction by establishing a three-level management system; actively carried out compliance management, intensified technical transformation, increased the investment in key projects and tapped the potentials for energy saving and emission reduction; increased pressure on itself and took the initiative to reinforce energy saving, environmental protection and closedown of small thermal generator sets.

In 2007, the Company satisfactorily attained the annual objectives set out in the Three Responsibility Statements for energy saving, emission reduction and closedown of small thermal generator sets. The 18 power plants included into the “1000 businesses to save energy” initiative saved about 1 million tons of standard coal, accounting for 242% of the annual target. The coal consumption for power supply last year reached 337.37g/KWH, achieving a year-on-year decrease of 7.74g/KWH.The capacity of the generator sets equipped with desulphurization facilities reached 37.305 million KW, accounting for 57% of the installed capacity of coal-fired generator sets. 13 power plants, including Yuhuan Power Plant, were named exemplary saving and environment-friendly coal-fired power plants or saving and environmentally-friendly coal-fired power plants, with the indexes of energy saving and environmental protection reaching advanced level in China, some even reaching advanced international level. 2,391,250 KW of small generator sets were already closed down, accounting for 95.2% of the capacity set out in the responsibility statement signed with the state for closing down small thermal generator sets in the 11th Five-Year Plan period.
