Shu Yinbiao Attends the Inauguration Meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 83rd IEC General Meeting
On February 14th, the inauguration meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 83rd International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was convened in Beijing. Zhang Mao, Minister of the State Administration of Market Regulation, Tian Shihong, Vice Minister of the State Administration of Market Regulation, Head of the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China, and President of IEC China National Committee, Xu Kunlin, Vice Mayor of Shanghai municipal government, Xin Bao’an, President of State Grid Corporation of China attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Shu Yinbiao, the 36th IEC President, and Chairman of China Huaneng Group Co. Ltd., attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
The meeting announced the successful launch of the Organizing Committee of the 83rd IEC General Meeting, and deliberated on the general plan of the General Meeting. Zhang Mao, Minister of the State Administration of Market Regulation, and Ying Yong, Mayor of Shanghai municipal government, serve as the directors of the Organizing Committee. Tian Shihong, Xu Kunlin, Shu Yinbiao, and Xin Bao’an serve as the deputy directors. Members of the Organizing Committee include Yu Fachang and others. The Organizing Committee sets up Beijing Office and Shanghai Office.
In his speech, Shu Yinbiao expressed his appreciation to the high attention and great support from the State Administration of Market Regulation, the Standardization Administration of PRC, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of PRC, Shanghai municipal government, State Grid Corporation, and all sectors of the society to the organizing work for the IEC General Meeting. He commended every preparatory work for the IEC General Meeting. Shu Yinbiao said, IEC is one of the international standardization organizations in the world with longest history and greatest influence. IEC has been exerting its crucial impact on promoting the connectivity of standards, establishing a platform for exchanges and cooperation, and facilitating global energy transition and economic growth. Along with the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative, China has accelerated the pace of opening-up, and international standards become the important bridge for bolstering the realization of a robust, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth of the world economy.
Shu Yinbiao noted, 2019 is the 70th anniversary of the founding of PRC, and also is an important year for propelling China’s all-round opening-up. Hosting the IEC General Meeting in China, reflects the thorough implementation of the spirit of the important speeches and relevant instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping concerning the Belt and Road Initiative. It serves as an important opportunity to demonstrate China’s comprehensive strength and to build up an image as a responsible major power, and to present the achievements and developments of China’s power industry. It also serves as an important platform to facilitate the consistent development of international standardization and the improvement of human civilization.
Shu Yinbiao said, in order to make full use of the role of IEC President and with the support from the State Administration of Market Regulation, an advisory committee for IEC President will be established, aiming to propose all-round and multi-dimensional advice and suggestions to IEC based on the industry-university-research cooperation.
Shu Yinbiao hoped that through this meeting, more industries and enterprises will be able to better understand IEC, recognize IEC, and get involved in IEC’s work. Relying on IEC as an important international platform, the ‘going global’ of China’s power industry, standards, and brands will be furthered. Exerting the coordinated, regulated and guiding function of standards in global governance, the grand realization of global economic integration, the grand connectivity of development and the grand sharing of fruits will be facilitated. He believed, under the guidance of the CPC Central Committee and State Council, with the strong support from the State Administration of Market Regulation, the Standardization Administration of PRC, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of PRC, Shanghai municipal government, State Grid Corporation, and all sectors of the society, the 83rd IEC General Meeting will be a great success with unique characteristics and highlights, and becoming the most influential global grand gathering of international standardization organizations.
It is reported that the 83rd IEC General Meeting will be held in Shanghai, China, from October 14th to 25th. With duration of 12 days, the General Meeting is sponsored by IEC, organized by the State Administration of Market Regulation, the Standardization Administration of PRC, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of PRC, Shanghai municipal government, State Grid Corporation and China Huaneng Group, and co-organized by 11 units including the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Market Regulation. The theme of the General Meeting is “Better Quality Better Life – Reliability, Safety, Efficiency”. It is estimated that approximately 3000 experts and representatives from the delegations of IEC national committees, International Standardization Organization (ISO), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and other domestic and overseas organizations will attend the General Meeting.
