Cao Peixi and Ma Jing Visited Myanmar

From May 31st to June 3rd, Cao Peixi, President of China Huaneng Group, and Ma Jing, Discipline Inspection Team Leader visited Myanmar. During the visit, Cao Peixi and Ma Jing respectively met with Mr. Zuomin, Secretary of the First Power Department, and Mr. Dantai, Secretary of the Energy Department of Myanmar, both parties exchanged opinions on power development and energy cooperation.

Cao Peixi briefly introduced the basic information of China Huaneng Group and the practice of Huaneng’s international operations, particularly Huaneng’s investment in Myanmar and ideas on further development. He also thanked the First Power Department and the Energy Department for their support to Huaneng’s investment in Myanmar. Cao Peixi hoped that China Huaneng Group could deepen cooperation with Myanmar and enlarge the scale of investment in Myanmar on the base of good mutual cooperation in the past, so as to make greater contribution in promoting economic development in both China and Myanmar.

Mr. Zuomin, Secretary of the First Power Department, and Mr. Dantai, Secretary of the Energy Department of Myanmar, welcomed Cao Peixi and the delegation. They expressed their respects for the achievements of China Huaneng Group in recent years. They introduced the development plans of power projects in Myanmar. They said that, they would welcome and support the investment of China Huaneng Group in Myanmar, and would be willing to create a favorable environment for the development of China Huaneng Group in Myanmar, and hoped the two parties could strengthen cooperation so as to achieve mutual benefit as well as win-win development.

During the visit, the delegation of China Huaneng Group had friendly exchanges with government officials and enterprises in Myanmar, furthered the understanding of the investment environment in Myanmar, and clarified the challenges and opportunities faced by China Huaneng Group in Myanmar.

The first phase of Myanmar Shweli Hydropower Station, the first BOT project by China in Myanmar, was constructed and put into operation by China Huaneng Group in April 2009. Currently, the project development agreement (MOA) for the second phase of Myanmar Shweli Hydropower Station was signed between Huaneng and Myanmar, and preparatory work has been under way.
