Cao Peixi and Zhang Tingke Meet with Chairman of Duke Energy Corporation

On March 28, Cao Peixi, President, and Zhang Tingke, Vice President of China Huaneng Group met with Jim Rogers, Chairman of Duke Energy Corporation. Qian Zhimin, Vice Chairman of the National Energy Administration, and Zhang Zuoyi, Director of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) of Tsinghua University, were present at the meeting. The two sides exchanged opinions on Sino-U.S. energy cooperation and the trend of nuclear power development.

Cao Peixi briefly introduced the achievements of China Huaneng Group in 2010. He said, Huaneng and Duke have maintained a long-term and pleasant cooperative relationship. After signing the strategic cooperation agreement in 2009, the two sides have launched extensive exchange and cooperation in new energy, energy conservation and pollutant reduction, CO2 capture and nuclear power technology fields. He hoped that the two sides would further deepen the partnership.

Rogers applauded China Huaneng Group for its achievements and introduced the development status and future planning of Duke Energy. He said, the cooperation between Duke Energy and Huaneng Group has achieved substantial progress, and has positively inspired and promoted the development of Duke Energy. Jim Rogers introduced the impacts of the Japanese nuclear crisis on the U.S. nuclear power industry. He said the Japanese nuclear crisis showed that the impact of any nuclear power accident has gone beyond national borders, so the nuclear power industry around the world should strengthen exchange and work together to promote nuclear power security.

At the meeting, Zhang Zuoyi, Director of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) ofTsinghua University, introduced progress of the High Temperature Gas-cooled reactor project based on its economic and technological advantages.
