Operation of First Biomass unit of China Huaneng Group

At 16:18 on September 21, 2009, the first biomass unit of China Huaneng Group——unit 1 of Huaneng Changchun Biomass Thermal Power Plant passed the 72-hour test run with high quality and was put into operation.

Huaneng Changchun Biomass Thermal Power Plant is the first demonstration project of China Huaneng Group for biomass power generation and was built by Huaneng Jilin Corporation. Located in Shuangyang District of Changchun, it has 2 cogeneration units of 15MW each. Construction started on June 27, 2008.The plant mainly uses the straws of farm products as fuel, achieving remarkable economic and social benefits. The energy utilization efficiency reached nearly 90%. The purchase of straws alone can provide local farmers with nearly 50 million Yuan of income each year and all the ashes resulting from burnt straws will be returned to the farmers for use as a fertilizer. After being completed and put into operation, the plant is expected to process some 200,000 tons of straws, save 85,000 tons of standard coal, generate 180 million KWH of electricity, achieve an output value of 108 million Yuan and over 15 million Yuan of profit,and taxes each year, provide over 200 jobs for local farmers.
