Started Construction of Huaneng Shanghai Gas Turbine Power Plant Project

On April 8, 2005, the construction of Huaneng Shanghai Gas Turbine Power Plant project officially started at Shidongkou, Baoshan District, Shanghai. This is a part of the national west-east gas transmission project, a key project of Shanghai for developing power generation using clean energy and also a project supporting the industrialization of the gas turbine equipment of Shanghai. The construction of the project has great importance for optimizing the energy and power source structure of Shanghai, meeting the rapidly increasing demand for electric power, enhancing the operation safety and reliability of the power grid and improving the urban environment. Compared with a conventional coal-fired power plant, the gas turbine power plant features much lower emission of sulfur dioxide and nitric oxide as well as much lower consumption of water resources. It is not only environmentally-sound, but also excellent in peak load regulating performance. After having been put into operation, the generator set will play an important role in easing the tense power supply of Shanghai and ensuring the safety of the local power grid. The power plant covers a small area and is high in automation and labor productivity, with an authorized size of no more than 50 people.
