U.S. DOE Secretary Steven Chu visited Huaneng Shanghai Shidongkou NO.2 Power Plant
On November 14, U.S. DOE Secretary Steven Chu visited Huaneng Shanghai Shidongkou NO.2 Power Plant, accompanied by Mr. Wu Dawei, Chief Economist of CHNG.
Secretary Chu visited the Central Control Room of the 660MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired generating units and the steam turbine operation platform, and also inquired about the technical data, performance index and the process flow of the units. He visited the CO2 capture project (100 thousand ton/year), and listened to the General Manager of the Plant introduce the workflows of the CO2 capture facility.
Secretary Chu spoke highly of the CO2 capture technology. He added, “the U.S. is right now exploring ways of CO2 emissions reduction, and is also developing the MEA method, IGCC technology, oxy-fuel combustion technology etc”, he also expressed the intentions to collaborate with Huaneng in corresponding areas.
