Huaneng Supporting Construction of New Rural Areas—Lancang River Program Making Great Headway

Recently, the Lancang River program of Huaneng Group designed to support the construction of new rural areas has made a great headway, leading to the formation of a new pattern of harmonious development in the entire reaches characterized by the local government and people caring for and supporting hydropower construction endeavors and the construction of power stations strongly promoting the all-round progress of local society and economy.

The program is greatly commended and affirmed by the Party Committees and governments of Yunnan Province at all levels, by related departments and by the local masses.

Currently, the program has resulted in creating 16 Hope Primary Schools, 20 clinics and 12 culture rooms, which are either built or being built, financing 20 natural villages in renovating their appearance, providing professional training for 250 rural teachers, sending over 250 secondary and high school graduates to vocational technical schools, supporting 1000 primary and secondary school students to complete schooling, effecting the employment transfer of 2500 rural laborers, enabling 40,000 people to take part in national new rural cooperative medical service, solving the drinking water difficulty of 5,900 people and building 4 demonstration sites that support the construction of new rural areas.
