China Huaneng Group Taking an Active Part in a Large-scale Development of Western Regions—Started Construction of Tian-Ping Railway in Gansu

December 4, 2008, the construction of Tianshui-Pingliang Railway in Gansu was formally started, involving a total investment of 5.4 billion Yuan. This is a key construction project in the province in the 11th Five-Year Plan and a national cascade-I single line electrified railway.

The main line is 98.9km long and will be used primarily for coal transportation and secondarily for passenger-cargo transportation. The expected construction period is 4 years. The railway is constructed, operated and managed by Tian-Ping Railway Co., Ltd., which is a joint venture of the Ministry of Railways, China Huaneng Group, the investor representative of the People’s Government of Gansu Province and Huating Coal Group Co., Ltd. Upon completion, the railway will become a regional trunk railway that runs through the southeastern part of Gansu and benefits the neighboring economic and industrial belts. It will open a new strategic passage for the development and utilization of the coal resources in eastern Gansu.
