Huaneng Yueyang Power Plant Focusing on Environmental Protection—China’s 1st

On May 30, 2006, generator set #4 of Huaneng Yueyang Power Plant passed a 168-hour trial run and formally started production concurrently with the desulphurization device. This is the first time in China that desulphurization device is put into operation simultaneously with a new generator set.

The phase 2 expansion project of the plant calls for the construction of 2 coal-fired generator sets of 300,000 KW. The construction started in April 2004, involving a total investment of 2.47 billion Yuan. Generator set #3 was already put into operation in February this year. After generator set #4 was put into operation, the plant had an installed capacity of 1.325 million KW to become the largest thermal power plant already put into operation in Hunan Province.

Generator set #4 took only 10 days plus 10 hours to complete the 168 hour trial run, and to be connected with the power grid setting a record in the domestic power sector. It has also become the first in China to put the desulphurization device and the generator set into operation simultaneously, marking a big step taken toward the goal of building a saving and environmentally-sound thermal power plant.
