BEIJING, April 24 -- On the afternoon of April 20 local time, a batch of medical supplies donated by China Huadian Corporation LTD. (CHD) to Cambodia in support of the country against the COVID-19 pandemic was handed over to its Cambodian counterpart at the headquarters of ?lectricité du Cambodge (EDC). It is understood that the shipment had included disposable masks, N95 masks, infrared automatic thermometers, temperature detective guns, medical protective clothing, medical goggles, medical gloves and disinfectants, which amounted a total value of about 1.1 million yuan.
Mr. Wang Wentian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, Mr. Wu Guoquan, Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of PRC in Cambodia, Mr. Keo Rottanak, Managing Director of EDC and other concerned parties and individuals had attended and witnessed the signing of the handover documents. Mr. Wen Shugang, Chairman of CHD, had rendered a letter of consolation to EDC and the Ministry of Mineral and Energy of Cambodia, expressing his concerns and wishes for CHD’s partners in Cambodia and the Cambodian people in the battle against the pandemic.
Ambassador Wang Wentian had said that having brought the COVID-19 outbreak under control back home, the Chinese government immediately sent a medical team to Cambodia to assist in the treatments of patients affected by the disease. Ambassador Wang had expressed hope for China and Cambodia to support one another to overcome the current hardships together.
Mr. Wen Shugang had said in his letter that as a participant in Cambodia's electricity infrastructure construction, CHD strives in the pursuit for smooth and orderly progress of its projects in Cambodia to support the country's economic development and social stability. Mr. Wen believes that under the leadership of the Cambodian government, the pandemic will be defeated. At present, the Lower Stung Russei Chrum Hydroelectric Power Station is under safe and stable operation, and the construction of the foundation work of Preah Sihanouk’s thermal power project is progressing in an orderly manner. CHD is determined to overcome difficulties and provide assistance within its capacity.
It is reported that so far, CHD’s Lower Stung Russei Chrum Hydroelectric Power Station has provided an accumulated amount of more than 6.2 TWH of clean energy, which has effectively alleviated the local power supply shortage. Meanwhile, CHD has actively participated in local public welfare undertakings such as constructions of roads and bridges, and donated funds to school students, vigorously implementing China's Belt and Road Initiative. Mr. Keo Rottanak had expressed his gratitude towards CHD for its speedy assistance, saying that such act is profoundly telling of the friendship between Cambodia and China, and he is willing to cooperate with CHD to carry out in-depth cooperation in a wider range of fields. Dr. Mam Bunheng, the Cambodian Minister of Health had also expressed appreciation towards the Chinese government and people for the tremendous help provided to Cambodia.
