Renewable power project commissioned in Nyima county, Tibet

On December 25, the Nyima County ( of Nagqu Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region) commissioned parts of the renewable energy-sourced/regional grid-transmitted electric power project engineered by Tibet Branch of China Huadian. After over 100 days of hard work, and 6 days ahead of the original schedule, China Huadian fulfilled its promise as a part of its aid plan to the region to deliver reliable electricity to local residents for their heating and lighting.

With an average altitude of 4,800 meters, the remote and poorly resourced Nyima county is isolated from main grid and was inadequately electric powered, suffering from 150 days of continuous outages during winter and spring in the past. To change this situation and thus improve residents’ living standards as a step to alleviate them out of poverty, China Huadian in this June signed with regional government an aid agreement to be implemented in the 13^th five-year plan period, also in accordance with the arrangements of National Energy Administration. Tibet Affiliate of China Huadian was delegated with the EPC of the renewable power project in Nyima county and it actively answered the call in fulfilling its social responsibility as a state-owned enterprise. All members participating in the project endeavored to overcome difficulties to work in high altitude, extreme cold and remoteness. Within the 100 days from the ground breaking on September 7 to the commission on December 25, the engineering team installed PV system of 9.54MW, storage system of 32.4MW, and a diesel generator of 1500kw.

The project is designed to commission altogether PV system of 22MW, storage system of 48MWh, 2×1500kw diesel generators, transmission and distribution facilities upgraded from incumbent ones below 10kv, and 10kv lines totaling 17km by end of 2017.
