Yebatan hydro power station, the biggest one on the upper stretches of Jinsha River, was officially approved by National Development and Reform Commission recently to start construction.
Located on the main course of Jinsha River at the intersection of Changdu in the eastern part of Tibet Autonomous Region and Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in western Sichuan, the station is the 7th of the 13 planned on the upper Jinsha and is also the largest one with installed capacity of 2240MW and annul production of 10.2billion kWh. It is expected to save 3 million mt of standard coal equivalent and 7.4 million tons of SO2 after commission.
Huadian Jinsha River Upstream Hydropower Development Co.,LTD. of Huadian is in charge of the 8-stage stations totaling 10,000MW in the Tibet-Sichuan section on the upper course of Jinsha River. Up to now, Suwalong and Yebatan of the 8 stations have been approved and others except Yanbi have all begun preliminaries, all of which were planned to start construction during the 13th five-year plan period, and to be commissioned during the 14th five-year plan period. The company is now accelerating developing hydro power in the river basin and wind, solar power by the riverside and establishing a clean energy base of 10,000MW scale with hydro, wind, solar supplementing each other.
