Research Achievement of Daduhe Shaping Power Generation Company Recognized by Industry Authorities

A paper titled “Application of Optical Fiber Temperature Detection Technology in the Excitation System for Shaping Hydropower Station” written by an engineer with the Daduhe Shaping Power Generation Company was published on Mechanical & Electrical Technique of Hydropower Station, a leading journal jointly launched by the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, China Society for Hydropower Engineering, and China Water website.

Targeting serious error and time lagging in temperature measuring by the power components of the traditional excitation system, the paper illustrates fundamentals, installations and the network topology of the fluorescent optical fiber sensors. Based on the application of the technology in the hydropower station, the paper said it has satisfactory monitoring of effects and broad prospects for widespread application and can be widely used in monitoring the temperature of joint stators, high-voltage switch cabinets, cable terminals and other strong current equipment connectors to ensure safe and stable power generation thanks to the advantages of fluorescence optical fiber sensors, such as high precision, efficiency, and convenience of installation and maintenance.

Located at the confluence of the Jinkou River and the border of the Ebian Yi Autonomous County, Shaping Hydropower Station is a second-level hydropower station as part of the 20th of 22 cascade hydropower stations planned on the Daduhe River. The station uses the largest domestic bulb tubular turbine units. The published paper illustrates the empirical research result on the application of the technology at Shaping Hydropower Station. It represents compelling evidence to the technology and opens a new area for future research.
